Synthetic oil is more environmentally friendly and more efficient at lubricating your engine, so it is often recommended, but not required for Toyota vehicles. Standard oil comes from crude oil and is predominately natural oil. Synthetic oil is man-made and has a lot of engineering in their creation. Synthetic oil starts working better and faster on cold days than standard oil. It’s better on very hot days and also lubricates your engine better. Synthetic oil costs more but lasts longer, so you do not have to have oil changes as often.
Also with synthetic oil, there are fewer deposits of impurities in your engine, so it keeps your engine cleaner inside. While it is also better for the environment, there will still be the oil that has to be disposed of, but there will be less of it over time. While synthetic is recommended it is not required. You may also get conventional oil or a combination with a semi-synthetic blend.
