When Should I Get My Toyota Oil Change?
Routine maintenance is a fact of live in vehicle ownership, and new Toyota models are not exempt. For years, Toyota vehicles have been known to have the lowest cost of ownership, and that includes routine maintenance. But we all know that engines require an oil change from time to time.
Your engine oil has critical roles, and it’s vital that it gets replaced before damage is done inside the engine. Engine oil prevents corrosion on internal components, reduces wear between metal parts, washes buildup off parts inside the engine, and it’s even responsible for up to 40 percent of the engine cooling.
It’s perhaps the most important service you can have performed on your Toyota. But do you know when your oil change service is due?
The Toyota Oil Change Interval
If you drive a Toyota that uses conventional 0w-20 viscosity engine oil, your oil change service is due every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Regardless of how little your Toyota gets used, the oil must be replaced every 6 months. And if it only takes one month to drive 5,000 miles, you’ll need to get the oil changed after just that month.
If your Toyota requires synthetic engine oil, your oil change interval is longer. Synthetic oil change services are required every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
Some owners might want to switch to synthetic oil changes for longer intervals on cars that only require conventional oil. While it certainly helps maintain your engine to the best standards, it does not extend the interval past 5,000 miles or 6 months.
How You Know It’s Time for an Oil Change
Most Toyota models have an oil change reminder or ‘Maintenance Required’ warning that illuminate when you’re due for an oil change. It’s best to keep track of the time and mileage on your own also, making sure you don’t miss crucial vehicle maintenance.
